Black Friday is probably the biggest shopping day of the year and it is just a week away – so you might want to keep the date in your diary free if you’re saving for something or a fireplace!
So this year, Black Friday falls on November, 24th 2017. In America It always falls on the day after Thanksgiving. However as the day has prominently grown and grown over the years and shopping online is much easier, many businesses launch deals well ahead of the big day for which they now call ‘Black Friday Week’.
Some have already began to release offers in advance – for example, Amazon began their Black Friday deals from today (November, 17th) Once you think it’s all over, it’s not as come Monday it’s time for Cyber Monday (November 27th). Cyber Monday used to be a separate event in its own right until 2016 when it became an extension to the Black Friday weekend.
Where did Black Friday come from?
The term “Black Friday” originates from Philadelphia, USA, in the early 1950s. In 2010, Amazon introduced the concept to the UK. Asda, owned by America’s biggest retailer Walmart, followed suit in 2013 with then just about every other major and independent businesses followed suit.
